I've decided.....

Good Morning Everyone!

Well.... I have to tell you a short story... !  As I lie in bed this morning I was quickly reading my Facebook to see what exciting things were posted last night... and there was my friend Lisa Bongean telling us all about her summer block of the week .... my mind was amazed.  This woman never stops... she's amazing!  However, that is not where my brain stopped... it was a statement she made to me one day when we were chatting on the phone.  I'm not quite sure how it went but it surely struck home as I got out of bed, grabbed my freshly brewed coffee (which my sweet honey has ready for me each morning....he's so wonderful....) and walked into my studio!   Let me just say..  eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk!  I swear it looks like a tornado hit!  Here's what I see  (without pictures.... too embarrassing!)  My desk appears as though someone snuck in and dumped their entire world on it.  I have projects half started everywhere... clay, sewing, wood carving, boxes of items to be put away, wool I'm cutting for block-of-the-week kits, projects I'm working on for our Christmas retreat, binders half opened, catalogs, half done projects everywhere... do you all get my drift?  Is this your sewing studio too?  Please tell me it is!  ppppplllleeeaaassseee!!!!

Well... back to my original thoughts (I swear I have ADD in my old age!) Lisa said to me.."Glo, let's face it - you are the creator - the thinker - the designer.... I am the finisher - I implement and finish.  You know...that really struck home this morning.  THANK YOU LISA!  I've made a commitment this morning to stop all of this silliness and FINISH things.  It will be so hard... you know why?  These are all of the craft things I either love to do... or have on my list to do (whether it's begin or finish)  Ready??  It's a long list!

Quilt (piecing, applique, projects, you name it)
Wool (applique, projects... again you name it!)
Rug hooking
NeedlePunch
Cross Stitch
Wood Carving
Clay molding
Basket Weaving
Covering boxes and making wool lids
Making "critters" like Heather makes
Making vintage Santas
Making wax cinnamon ornaments
Designing
Hand embroidery
Cooking
Beading
Making "hexie" items
Block of the Month collections (which I haven't even started)
plan special events, retreats...
and on... and on... and on....

We are trying to "purge and merge" and it's the hardest thing I've ever had to do... I guess because I love it all!  Know what I mean?  Do you all have these same symptoms I do?   Then... there is this word that I can't seem to use when asked to help or do things.... it's a simple word... one I don't like to use very often... guess what it is?

NO!

I just have the hardest time spitting out that word when it comes to something I really, really want to do, make or design.  But you know what... I'm going to use it when I tell myself that's it's OK to say NO... but only when I've thought through the process long enough!  HA!!!   Oh... and on the other side of my studio is VICKY... and let me just say... she's just as bad as I am!  Two ADD chicks in one room... OMG!  It's simply a friggin' disaster!!!  I truly hope I have not passed this deadly disease on to my daughter!  She too is ssssssoooooo talented as many of you know ! However, she does seem to specialize in her wonderful "critters" she makes.... here are just a few....  All can be ordered...
Make sure you go to her Facebook page - Mohair Bears & Friends by Heather Lynn.  Just sent her a personal message and she'll let you know the price for each.  My favorite (at the moment...it changes often...) is this adorable SKUNK!

Okay... now that I've gotten all of this all my chest... it's time to get busy!  One section at a time... one project at a time... I will conquer!  Lisa... keep me on target... pester the crap out of me and make sure I'm "on target"!  You are my inspiration... HUGGERS TO YOU!

Chat with ya'll soon... I'll keep you posted on how I'm doing .. (very nervous about all of this...)

GOOD MONDAY MORNING!

Good morning everyone!

What a fun weekend we had....!  Vicky and Heather were at the Tree City Quilt Guild quilt show with a booth of fabulous jewelry.  Vic was so excited when she got home that she got to see gals she hadn't seen in ages.  It was so much fun for them to visit with everyone!

I stayed home with my hubby and we had a fun day with Lexie and Isabelle (Vicky's littlest granddaughter)  What a pill the two of them are together!  So sweet...and they were both very good and had a great time playing together.  Isabelle has a little pink bike so each time her Uncle Jack took the doggies out for a walk she would get so excited .... she could ride her bike along with them.

I also finished the directions for our Mystery block-of-the-week!  Our block will debut this Friday... It's an Americana theme... hope you like it.  the blocks so far have been absolutely wonderful.

Then... I worked on a new series of Christmas ornaments for our K & K Interiors Co.  We have quite a challenge this time... they would like us to work on a series of Candy Canes, Snowmen, Santa, Angels, Cardinals, Pinecones, and I can't even remember what else.  So needless to say, my artistic brain is fast at work.  It does help me fall asleep at night.... I just lay there and try to think of new ideas and before I know it... I'm out like a light.  Then...when I first awake in the morning.... I'm right back where I was.  Funny thing though... I can think so much clearer in the morning on great ideas.  It just goes to show...when you're tired...so is your BRAIN.

We're also working on getting the rest of our retreats for this year filled to capacity with fun gals that want to have a blast, rest, relax, and renew themselves.  We have Camp Blanding in July and September, Missouri Star Quilt Co in October, and "Spirit of Christmas" after Thanksgiving!  So...as you can tell... we are a bit frazzle-dazzle here.

If you haven't had a chance to read about Missouri Star and the Christmas retreat... please do so!  We have flyers on the website you can click on... we work so hard to find fun places and projects for all of you and we invite all of you to attend.  Every quilter deserves to treat themselves to a get-a-way retreat... it will invigorate your spirt, creative mind, give you new friends, and lots and lots of memories.

Today... I am tackling the garage!!!  If you don't hear from me in several weeks... please come to my house and look for me - I could be buried out there somewhere and no one will find me.  hahahahahaha!!  We are organizing (for the 1000th time) and trying to get a better control on all of our "stuff".  You know what all of that is don't you.... just like in our sewing rooms.  UGH!!  let's don't talk about that!!!!

Oh the weather outside is frightful....

But the fire is so delightful!!...  Yes... it surely will be delightful with all of you that are attending our
"Spirit of Christmas" Retreat in North Carolina.  We have rented a HUGE home on the outer banks that is absolutely gorgeous!  It has 24 bedrooms - king size beds and your own baths.... on three floors!  PLUS, gorgeous kitchen(s), laundry room, tons of decking... and we are right on the ocean.

We have 5 designers that will be teaching tons of classes!  Each class will be posted on our website where you can see each design in detail.  The supply list will be posted - or... you can pre-order a kit from the instructor!  We'll bring your kit right to the classroom so everything will be already for you when you arrive.

As the project samples are completed...we'll be posting sneak peaks on Facebook and the blog.  Once we have the site ready for you to see all of the classes... we'll be sure to post everything on the blog and email those of you that have signed up already.

We know this is a rough time for all of you to get away from your families.  It's just after  Thanksgiving and everyone will be ooped after all the heavy traffic of family members in and out.... but it's a time for you to rest and have fun and let us wait on you.... we do all the cooking... you just have fun and have classes - you can then take the information with you back home and make "memories" with your family and friends.  Please check out the flyer for more details!  SIGN UP TODAY!!!

We can't wait to celebrate the Christmas Spirit with all of you!!

We're BACK from North Carolina!!!

Wow...what a trip we had to our new retreat in North Carolina on the outer banks... right on the ocean.  Lisa Bongean was as dynamic as ever and we all had a blast.  50 of us gals, stitching, sewing, shopping, relaxing, site-seeing... it was simply a trip I will ALWAYS remember.

We arrived on Sunday and played around the area for awhile until we could check in at the retreat house.  It was so cold!!!!!  SNOWING!  When I left our hotel to bring the car and trailer to the front of the hotel to pick up the other gals.... I thought it was raining.  Once I walked outside - giant snowflakes were falling.  Needless to say... I was quite shocked and my sweatshirt was NOT warm enough...brrrr was it cold!  The whipping wind did not help.  We were all glad to hop in the car with the HEAT on.  So... off we went... for our final hour of driving .... then we stopped for lunch after hooking up with Amy and Lisa and went to this really good restaurant they said was great.  YUM... I had catfish!  ssssssssssssssoooooooooooooo good.

We finally made it to the retreat house and unloaded box after box after box after box after sewing machine, sewing machine, sewing machine, sewing machine...ha...do you get the message????  Needless to say... we were pooped.  It was still freezin' cold outside and the wind was brutal...however, we all seemed to still be sweating!

Then...there were the BIG, 8' LONG TABLES that we had to take to the 3rd floor.  I swear they weighed 100 lbs. each and would NOT fit in the elevators.  After bringing 2 or 3 of them up 6 flights of stairs... I said..."that's it... I'm calling the rental agency and seeing if they can help us".  They hopped on it like a bunny...soon two strong fellows showed up and helped us.  Table after table...and let me tell you...they were big and strong and they were so winded when finished.  I gave them a great, big tip and told them they deserved every penny of it.  Such nice guys!!!  They were our HEROS.

So... we got busy setting up the classroom, vendor stores, snack bar, kitchen.....  I think I finally fell into my bed and fell asleep around 1:30 am.  OMG... such hard work.

After about 4-5 hours of sleep...back up again and finished up .. we had gals that we knew would show up early...they were so excited... and they did and it was wonderful to meet everyone.
Monday was a meet-n-greet.... we didn't have class...we knew everyone would be tired from flying and driving so we just had a fun afternoon and evening... then Tuesday the classes began with Lisa.

Take a peek at some of the photos Lisa took...  Lisa's Blog

Also Visit on Facebook with - Heather Parsons-Lynn - and scroll down the many posts she has about the retreat along with eeeewww and ahhhhhing over the pictures.

So.... we had to end the wonderful week and say our goodbyes.  Gosh...that was so hard... tears all morning... such a super, wonderful, fun, silly, group of new friends we have all made.  They came from as far as California, Oregon, Washington and way up in the New England states.  It's just so wonderfully fun to meet women from all over the country and to visit with them, hear their stories, laugh with them, cry with them.... you just can't imagine how good my heart feels right now.

As we were cleaning up, packing the car... it was hard work but I just kept remembering the wonderful gals and the fun we had and it made each heavy box and every step I had to take feel like a feather.  I was on Cloud 9 (as Amy put it so sweetly) and I still am.

If you have never participated in a group retreat for an extended period of time, you MUST put that on your bucket list.  It's simply one thing you must do.... there is nothing like a group of gals that love the "needle and stitching" - such oneness together!

To those of you that attended, Heather, Vicky, Wynette, Amy, Lisa and I thank you very much for making our week... "THE BEST WEEK EVER!"  We hope your memories will last as long as ours and that we see you again VERY soon!

Hugs to all... and "keep stitchin'!"

Camp Blanding - April 20 - 25, 2017

Good Morning to All !!!!

We wanted to remind each of you to sign up for our April 20 - 25, 2017 Camp Blanding Retreat!  Here is some exciting news for all of us!  Did you see that date????

The post is allowing all of us to unload our machines, etc. on Thursday evening - April 20!  Yes.... you read correctly!  Over 80% of attendees are on post Thursday evening.... all ready for Friday morning.  Now... there are some restrictions we must follow and they are:

Unload between the hours of 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm!  The best place to do this... is at the back of the building at the double doors.  They will be open and it's so much easier to move in and out and not up and down the hallways on the side entrances.  As soon as you are unloaded at the back doors, please move your vehicle so others can unload quickly.

When unloading... no tables can be moved at this time... we are only allowed to bring in our items and set them on tables.  Those of you that are bringing in merchandise for the sale room an unload and put your items on the tables.  NO SHOPPING!!!  I know we all can't wait to see what's in the sale room - but these two hours are for unloading only... no one an shop until Friday!  Please follow these guidelines to make items available to everyone in the room!

We are NOT allowed to stay and sew... only drop off!!!!   We must adhere to these guidelines or they will revoke our bringing in our machines early.  This decision has been made to eliminate noise and disturbance in the morning while we are all waiting to enter the sewing room..... (who?  us?  noisy?  excited?  laughing?  happy?  nnnnnnoooo not us...hahahahahahahaha!)

We must also ask each of you to keep your tables tight together - so your "footprint" is a reasonable size giving plenty of room for your fellow sewers.  Remember - we still have arrivals on Saturday morning - they need tables and room also!!!

ALSO - those of you checking in on Thursday can pick up your lodging keys at the Housing Office (white building near the lodging brown single units...near the Armory.  Once the office is closed (around 4:00 pm)  your keys are brought to me - at the Armory for you to pick up.  PLEASE.... IF YOU HAVE MADE ARRANGEMENTS TO CHECK IN ON THURSDAY and have changed your mind and will not arrive until Friday, call me.  I have to wait until I hear from you before I leave the Armory just in case you need your keys.  If you are running late, that's perfectly acceptable, just let me know so I can head out to my lodging... then when you arrive, we'll make arrangements to get your keys to you.  This last retreat I was waiting to hear from several of you and when it got to be around 11:00 pm I knew you weren't going to arrive...but still was concerned I hadn't heard from you.  I'm just a worry-wart!!!

Register today....www.oldegreencupboard.com    This link will take you to our website - look on the right side and click on Camp Blanding Retreat & Registration form.  Complete and send your check with your form to the address indicated.  REMEMBER - to sign up for the SALE ROOM!

Also... please reconsider the 5 day option.  Here's the deal... those extra two days are so wonderful in getting even more of your UFO's completed.  In order to pay for the extra 2 day rental on the Armory, I need a minimum of 65 of you to stay.  That's not happening... only about 20 stay!!!  NOT GOOD!  If we can't get those numbers up, we may have to shift back to 3 days!  So... to make it even more attractive for you to stay with us longer... we're going to have some FUN things going on....

Bingo !!!!!!!!!!!!! (free to you)
DEMO's
Quick & FUN patterns for you to have (only for those staying 2 extra days)
Games... you'll win fun prizes

And... who knows what else we may drum up.  So... come on...stay with us.... it's such fun and we can all stretch out more and have a blast!

So... get those registration forms in... we take less people at the retreats since we have the sale room out on the floor... and since we offer 4 retreats per year now.  Then... remember to clean out those sewing rooms, craft supplies, antiques, purses, baskets, books, movies.... and sign up for the sale room!  EARN more money for FABRIC!  Plus... if you make craft items and would like to sell them in the sale room... you are more than welcome to bring them also!  WE LOVE TO SEE YOUR TALENTS!
